Tree Reports & Arborist Assessments in Melbourne

At Arborplan Arboriculture Consultants, we provide clear, accurate and council-compliant tree reports to support your project from planning through to construction.
Whether you need a preliminary tree assessment, arboricultural impact assessment, or a tree protection management plan, our reports meet Australian Standards and local council requirements – helping you move your project forward with confidence.

  1. Preliminary Tree Assessment

A Preliminary Tree Assessment is usually carried out at the start of a project, once a site survey has been completed.
The purpose is to record the details of all trees within and surrounding the project area, giving you (and your council) an accurate overview before planning begins.

Your report will include:

  • Genus & species (scientific name)

  • Common name

  • Origin (native, exotic, weed species)

  • Location

  • Height & canopy width

  • Tree health & structural condition

  • Estimated age

  • Useful Life Expectancy (ULE)

  • Arboricultural rating & retention value

  • Diameter at Breast Height (DBH) or trunk circumference

  • Diameter at Base (DAB)

  • Tree Protection Zone (TPZ) & Structural Root Zone (SRZ) measurements

  • Accurate site map with tree locations and ID numbers

This early-stage assessment ensures your design and planning process starts with all the right information.

2. Arboricultural Impact Assessment (AIA)

An Arboricultural Impact Assessment determines how your proposed design will affect existing trees - both on your property and neighbouring land.
This is especially important for trees that are required to remain under local council regulations.

We follow Australian Standard AS 4970:2025 – Protection of Trees on Development Sites, classifying impacts as:

  • Minor: Less than 10% encroachment into the TPZ

  • Major: Greater than 10% encroachment (tree may not remain viable without design changes)

Your AIA will include:

  • Full tree data (as in Preliminary Tree Assessment)

  • Percentage of impact (Minor or Major)

  • Recommendations for retaining or removing affected trees

  • Suggestions for design modifications to reduce impact

  • Guidance on further investigations if required

This report ensures your design is both practical and compliant before you submit it to council.

3. Tree Protection Management Plan (TPMP)

A Tree Protection Management Plan outlines exactly how trees will be safeguarded during all stages of construction, including:

  • Demolition

  • Site preparation

  • Building works

  • Post-construction landscaping

Your TPMP will provide:

  • A scaled site plan showing Tree Protection Zones

  • Specific protection measures for each stage of construction

  • Installation details for fencing, barriers, and ground protection

  • Ongoing tree monitoring requirements

Having a TPMP not only helps keep your project compliant but also prevents costly damage to valuable trees.
